Scene cuts to the farmhouse door. Dora is standing in the open doorway.

CO: (in the entrance hallway behind her) Ah Dora! I've had Sir John on the phone.
You really must decide about those school children.

DO: I don't want to, Uncle. Can't take on anymore.

CO: You musn't cut yourself off, Dora. It's part of village life –
lending a hand – helping one another – taking part in things –
coming off our island. Oh, it's an imperfect world, I know.
God knows I contribute little enough, but you're different Dora.
The other day, when you made the first move, I was very proud of you.
And now – no malice, no revenge - you're growing up so beautifully Dora,
I don't want anything to spoil it.

Ron is fishing in the background.

RO: Oi! Sh! Frighten them off...

(in the distance you see Tina leading a string of horses out of the woods)

DO: They're back Ron ... she's brought them back!

(Dora runs to meet Tina)

DO: Tina!

(Tina lets the horses loose as Dora approaches)

DO: I thought you'd let me down – gone off!

TI: That boy, he came, we heard him laughing, shouting – taunting.

DO: Oh no.

TI: My father thought is was you, or your friends – meddling.
He hitched up the wagons and....it's a long way Dora, no one will ever find us –
no one will torment us.

DO: Oh...and I so wanted to build a bridge.
Oh you wouldn't understand, it's me, it's something I need to do.
Will you help me?

TI: Of course.

DO: Come teach some school children to ride –
at Follyfoot – twice a week.

TI: My father would never allow that.

DO: He has to learn to trust us.

TI: The boys – they...

DO: We'll keep them at Follyfoot – we won't let them follow you.

TI: Miss Patience?

DO: (laughs)She'll hate it, but, when she gets to know you
and the children learn to like you – it's part of the bridge Tina
– it's important.

TI: What about Steve?

DO: It's part of the bridge too. There's times it'll hurt, times I'll hate it,
times I'll want you so badly to help. Will you?

TI: Yes.

DO: Come on – come and get Dado.

(the two girls gather up the loose horses and start to lead them to Follyfoot.
Roll credits.
Steve and the Colonel walk to meet them and take the horses.
Dora and Tina walk together to Follyfoot.)
