The Bridge Builder - the transcript (DO)= Dora (ST)= Steve (CO)= Colonel (SL)= Slugger (MP) = Miss Patience (TI) = Tina(gypsy girl) (SI) = Simon (RO) = Ron A little girl is being led around on a pony by Ron. The Colonel is sitting on a stool watching. The other children stand around as well. Dora looks frustrated. MP: Get up Penelope. Don't slouch – that's right, chest out, chin up. No, don't lean forward dear - straight up. That's it. DO: She should relax. MP: Nonsense dear. Straight back – that's what we like – isn't it Simon? SI: Yes. MP: No Penelope – mustn't lean forward. (Dora walks away in disgust) MP: (to the Colonel) Doesn't she want to teach? CO: She'll be splendid. She loves horses, and children love her. (Dora has her back to the riding lesson. She sees the gypsy horse, Dado, enter the pond and start to swim across) DO: Steve! It's Dado – quick, get after him. CO: Dora! ST: Come one (he urges Hercules after Dado) CO: Dora? *~*~*

DO:(Dora is on another horse, following Dado to the edge of the wood)Tina's in the wood! ST: How do you know? DO: Dado – he's following her. ST: Tina – Tina? (he breaks down the fence – to let Dado through. ST: Follow him, Dora. (the black gypsy horse leads them on through the woods, deeper and deeper. Steve and Dora follow on horseback) ST: Tina – Tina – Tina (Cuts to a dense thicket – Tina is hiding there, watching them) ST: Tina? Tina – don't be afraid – we want to help. (Steve spots her hiding in the thicket) ST: Hi. How're your horses? They better? (Tina shakes here head in the negative) ST: Do you want to show us where they are? DO: We're nothing to do with the school, if that's what you think. Did they give you a bad time? So you're hiding, so they won't know where you are? Is that it? (Tina nods in the affirmative) DO: We won't tell a soul – I promise. We just want to see where the horses are, we'd like to help. (Tina hesitates then nods. They all remount and Tina leads them to the gypsy camp hidden in the woods.) *~*~*

A dog barks, a baby cries – there are at least two horses laying on the ground. The gypsy's watch Steve and Dora with hostile and wary eyes) DO: (to Tina) Stay with me? *~*~* END OF PART ONE *~*~*
