Treasure Hunt - the transcript

Part Four, Scene One.

Do=Dora, St=Steve, Em=Emily Derwent.

(Steve and Dora arrive at Derwent house as Agnes is being loaded into an ambulance. They watch for a moment before running off and into the house to search for Emily. They hear crying and reach the makeshift barrier. Steve tears down the curtain and they find Emily on the other side sitting on a step, crying her eyes out. Steve approaches and sits down beside the sister, puting his arm around her)

St. Hey, hey, come on. (Dora sits down beside him) Look, what was it all about? Tell me. Come on, own up, you'll feel better if you talk about it.
Do. It does help.
Em. It all seems so silly really.
St. Oh I bet it is, when you spell it out.
Em. She put the tea in first, in the cup. I always liked the milk in first.(she sobs) Oh, there were other things too, lots of them. It doesn't seem to matter any more.
Do. It doesn't. She's ill and she needs you.
Em. I don't know what to say.
Do. You don't have to say anything, just go to her.

(Emily nods in agreement. They all smile and get to their feet. Steve hands Emily over to Dora who leads the old lady away downstairs. Steve starts to dismantle the makeshift barricade across the hallway)
