Treasure Hunt - the transcript

Part Two, Scene One

Do=Dora, Ag=Agnes, Em=Emily

Dora is back at the Derwent mansion, walking around the outside to the kitchen door. She opens the door and goes inside.

Do. Anyone at home? Miss Derwent?

(Dora walks through the kitchen, then up some stairs. She sees a curtain'd barrier across the hallway and peeks through a hole in the sacking curtain)

Ag. (off camera) Who is it? Who's there?
Do. Miss Derwent? It's Dora from Follyfoot, we have your horse.

(Dora enters a bedroom and finds Agnes Derwent tucked up in bed)

Do. Excuse me coming in like this.....
Ag. Come in, come in!
Do. Are you alright? I was wondering if there was anything you want?
Ag. No dear, no. I can manage. I'm not incapable yet. I just slip down and pop back into bed afterwards, no trouble.

(cuts to the sister, Emily, listening at to the conversation through a crack in the door)

Ag. How's delilah?
Do. Fine.
Ag. Ah, you're lying to me, I can tell - has she eaten?
Do. No.
Ag. I knew it, and she won't. She'll miss Sampson.
Do. Isn't there something we can do? I mean - well - can't your sister?
Ag. Hah, you try asking her! She's a pigheaded, selfish and stupid woman, who wouldn't lift so much as a finger. I know you're listening, don't think I don't know.

(they hear a door slam shut - Dora gets up to investigate)

Do. Miss Derwent?

(Dora chases after the other sister)

Do. Miss Derwent?

(Dora tries to dismantle the barrier)

Do. Miss Derwent?
Em. What do you want?

(Dora leans over the balustrade)

Do. Can I talk to you, it's about Delilah.
Em. Good riddance. Silly creature's better off where it is.
Do. She hasn't eaten anything, she's pining for Sampson - they shouldn't be seperated.
Em. Poppycock! You're trying to interfere, I won't have it!
Do. But the horses!
Em. Do you understand? Don't try and interfere!

(Dora runs downstairs but the old lady is gone. Dora leaves the house.)
