Treasure Hunt - the transcript

Part One, Scene Two.

(Do)= Dora (Ha)= Hanner - stablehand (Em)= Emily - one of the sisters

Dora rides up a lane on Copper towards a big Gothic house, she sees two signs, one reads Agnes, the other Emily. She takes the left hand path (Agnes) and goes into the stable.

Do. (to the chestnut)There's a girl - come on, we're going for a walk - there (unties lead rope) - easy now - easy, we'll soon have you.....
Ha. Who's that? Who's there? What do you want? Ah! You from Follyfoot?
Do. Yes, I'm Dora. I was told to collect the horse.
Ha. Ah, well, that's alright then. She's not going to like it, you know.
Do. Who?
Ha. Delilah - she and Sampson here have been stable companions ever since they came here. I don't think there's been a night when these two haven't been aside of each other. She's not gonna like it any more than Sampson is - being seperated.
Do. Well, why do they have to be?
Ha. Well, that's Miss Agnes' horse, you see. Only she's ill.
Do. Can't you look after it?
Ha. Nagh. It's more than my lifes worth talking to you! They're sisters, ya see. Miss Agnes and Miss Emily. They lived in this same house together nigh on twenty years, and in all that time how often do you think they've spoken to each other?
Do. I don't know?
Ha. Not once - it's all right - not once.
Em. (off camera) Hanner?
Ha. Yes, Miss Emily?

(Hanner drops the sack curtain, leaving Dora to listen to his conversation with Miss Derwent)

Em. What are you doing?
Ha. Just settling Sampson Ma'am, shan't be a minute.
Em. That creature gone from next door yet?
Ha. Just going now Ma'am, someones collecting her.
Em. Good riddance, mangy old careworn brute.
Ha. They won't like being seperated. It's the first time that they......
Em. Poppycock! Get some proper care, do it good. Now do come along.

Dora leads Delilah out of the stable and off to Follyfoot.
